About JoAnn

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, JoAnn Petty Bresch holds bachelor and masters of arts degrees from Georgetown University. As an executive at the American College of Radiology for twenty-five years, she developed and produced educational programs for physicians, technologists and physicists. After an early retirement, she pursued her avocation, the visual arts and studied with a variety of internationally known artists, travelled to France and Italy to paint and was briefly an art instructor at Montgomery College in Maryland.

I paint in parallel worlds, sometimes in the abstract using experimental techniques, sometimes in a representational style embracing the techniques of the old masters.”

Having children’s education as a lifelong focus, she also taught art design to children using the creative process. She now resides full time in Sarasota and devotes time to painting, volunteering as a GAL in the Guardian ad Litem program for the Twelfth Circuit Court in Florida while enjoying the arts, culture and beaches in Sarasota.

Her experimental pieces are complex with a variety of water media: inks, acrylics, watercolor, oil and crayon. These pieces are generally interpretative or abstract designs influenced by her fascination with the infinite variety of organic shapes found in nature—whether they be from the earth’s landscape or the human form.

JoAnn is fascinated with the creative process. “It demands both problem solving and taking risks. It is at once great fun and enormously challenging. I paint in parallel worlds,” she says, “sometimes in the abstract using experimental techniques, sometimes in a representational style embracing the techniques of the old masters.”

Her works have sold—and received awards—in watercolor, mixed media and oils. They have been exhibited in juried shows in Maryland and Florida.
